Every American man at one point in his life dreams of the fast life of Las Vegas. The best part of all this fantasy stuff is that it's a true story. Read this because someone proved it can be done, and you know you want to know how he did it.
Mr.Konik lived this Vegas high life, made a fortune, and lived to tell about it. Konik writes with ease, great clarity, and a keen sense of storytelling. We talk about the high-roller status, the private jets and hotel entrances, the RFB (oh yes the full RFB), the showgirls, and betting more than the average guy, and winning more than the average guy.
Mr. The Smart Money is Mr. Konik's seductive and suspenseful account how he and his group of high-rolling, numbers-driven, syndicated sports bettors did what most people just dream and talk about, and made out with millions to the dismay of bookies world-wide.
There are mini-stories within the global picture, and some of the most memorable characters captured in writing about gambling. Don't miss this.
This book is the tale of a "normal" guy who knows just enough about the sports betting world to help the Brain Trust win millions from Vegas and various off shore sports books by following their directions - then learns enough to start his own syndicate. Smart Money is a terrific book that takes you behind the scenes of a gambling syndicate and the thinking of the bookies in Vegas. If you're looking for secrets on how to win millions, you won't get them here. The author does a great job expressing his personal thoughts through out the book as he wonders if this is what life should really be about.A great read for anyone who is interested in sports, curious about the lines/odds, and perhaps has placed a wager or two.
This book can psyche you up to be a "sharp bettor" in the sports betting world. A very interesting read. This reminds me of the "Market Wizard" books for investors and traders. The book reviews the author's experience working with a sports betting syndicate. There are some good war stories, mixed together with some tips and ideas that are useful for sports betting. Those books can get traders "psyched up" for trading/investing. This book is a surprisingly motivating book.
thanks to his own laziness and anxiety his gay friend algorithm andy looks like hector "macho" camacho by comparison.i dont want anybody to waste their time reading this book, however i do want you all to know how the worlds best bettors beat their bookies out of millions.1. all the characters were lame. this is where you make the real money. konik himself is the definition of a weenie.
thats important, because hitting teasers at a 70% rate will lose you money.its so easy. he calls his boss big daddy. no wonder his girlfriend leaves him, even after he becomes rich. terrible. go make your millions. of course you cant bet your money on them, but you can bet his, which you become responsible for if you get shorted by some scumbag that realizes whats going on.2.
call your gay friend that wanted to fondle you as a child and have him build a computer program that can make a better line than vegas, and bet the games that the computer finds the biggest discrepency. however the discrepencies are so small that you might have to start betting 6 point teasers in which the computer can find games that have 75% likelihood of hitting.
if you have the gut for it. i wasnt intimidated by the tough guys nor charmed by koniks dirty little girlfriend.
i cant believe we havent all been doing it. play golf with a wise guy that has built an enormous empire from gambling and become one of his closest friends.
he wont let you see where the picks are coming from, but he ll give you the picks. well what are you waiting for.
and of course the other unattainable variables.
THEN, completely unrelated, this writer is at a dogpark and befriends one of the most famous actors in America who happens to live near his APARTMENT and gets him and his mega famous friends to join the team. I got the book on CD and like others reviewers I can attest this story is HORRIBLY repetitive and has absolutely no insight. I like following markets and thought this might give some insight on probabilities etc. Ummmm, sure. Here's where it gets good. Right when his boyfriends algorithm can predict the future consistently, when he is taking in $500k a weekend HE STOPS.
The author has another book titled "Telling Lies and Getting Paid." How ironic. I am calling the proverbial BS on this story. I'll let you decide for yourself. Here is what the author wants you to believe. Let me start by saying I DO NOT GAMBLE(sports or casino) and never have, so I am not "jealous" of the authors "success". He's the biggest sports gambler in the world with a computer program that does analysis to find artitrage opportunities in point spreads from odds makers. Author lives the Vegas high roller life yada yada.
After they have tapped out every bookie on earth, and can move the line on any game at any casino in the world, he gets a gay high school friend who has a crush on him, to create an algorithm that basically picks every game correctly. He decides to start his own betting team. The game ends in the gambler offering the author a spot as basically a bet runner. I'd put it on par with other tall tales I've heard at bars throughout my life. With the help of this algorithm, the author and the celebrities basically win every game they play(including huge parlays etc) to the point bookies ban them(after 2 winning weeks).
He is a typical shlub writer who happens to score a interview with a bigtime gambler over a game of golf. This gambler isn't a nobody mind you. Before they get banned, after these extremely profitable weeks, the author has some "come to Jesus" moment and stops cold turkey. I'll give it 2 stars though, because out of the 30 or so voices he does for other characters lines, he uses a NY/NJ Italian Mafioso voice for about 25 of them.
